Bacon Cancer Risk Announcement Divides The Internet Between Meat Lovers And Haters

The announcement that processed meat including bacon and sausages are as likely to cause cancer as cigarettes has prompted people to chew the fat online.

The World Health Organisation has placed cured and processed meats in the same category as carcinogenic substances such as asbestos, alcohol, arsenic and tobacco.

Red meat is also "probably" carcinogenic, with associations mainly with bowel cancer, but also with pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer, according to its report.

But bacon lovers shouldn't lose hope just yet. The WHO says that red meat still has nutritional value, but that we should eat less to reflect the risks it poses.
